What’s Next? Eco Materialism & Contemporary Art

Participatory discussions with author Linda Weintraub

What’s Next? Eco Materialism & Contemporary Art

Linda Weintraub, author and artist, will lead a series of hands-on, interactive actions with visiting artists, scholars, faculty, and students. In her approach, she re-establishes the physical organism as a tool for investigation and discovery, it activates “sensory studies,” which is a growing field of academic inquiry, and “new materialism,” which is a current development in philosophy. The day will be divided into topics based on chapters in Weintraub’s recently published book, What’s Next?: eco materialism &  contemporary art. Together, with invited participants across disciplinary boundaries, she is inviting audiences to consider the remarkable capacities of the human organism to discern, interpret, and apply evidence of the material and energetic environment.
