Self-Love, Self-Care

Fowler Museum Community Day

Self-Love, Self-Care

The Fowler Museum will honor the artivists whose who generously and courageously shared their stories of living positively with HIV/AIDS to inspire audiences with their weekly performances in the “Through Positive Eyes” exhibition. This community day will celebrate human resilience with pop-up classes, lectures, food and drinks that support the joy and determination of mind, body and spirit.

Pop-ups include breathing meditation, yoga, Tibetan singing bowls, and music—beginning with yoga in the Davis Courtyard and ending with a DJ dance party. Artist-in-residence Adriana Bertini will offer an exciting drop-in art-making workshop from 1–3pm. Adriana Bertini’s first collaboration with the Fowler was her solo exhibition Dress Up Against AIDS (2006–2007), which featured 14 breathtaking couture dresses made entirely of condoms. By appropriating an object of protection and using it to create vibrant, original works of style, color, and texture, Bertini sought to raise awareness of and inspire the use of condoms, a crucial protection against AIDS. Cosponsored by the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine.

This event is presented by the Fowler Museum at UCLA.
