Parijat Desai
WACD | 10 a.m., Glorya Kaufman Hall

Parijat Desai, NYC-based choreographer and alumnus of UCLA's WAC Department, offers a lecture demonstration on choreographic process. She shares how she has been negotiating the radically different movement mechanics of Indian classical dance and modern/postmodern dance to generate hybrid vocabularies. For Parijat, choreography is a space to navigate and challenge familiar dichotomies between tradition/modernity and American/alien. She is currently an artist-in-residence with Center for Performance Research/NYC and CUNY Dance Initiative.
This event is presented by the Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance.
