Visual and Performing Arts Education MinorThe Visual and Performing Arts Education (VAPAE) minor in the School of the Arts and Architecture offers a sequence of courses designed to introduce arts majors to key issues and methodologies in the field of arts education and to a broad range of possible careers in the arts, including K-12 teaching, museum education, arts administration, art therapy, and arts advocacy. Design for SharingDesign for Sharing is UCLA Live’s arts education program for students K-12. The program, which is fully funded by contributions from hundreds of generous individuals, provides free tickets to public schools and local community organizations, allowing thousands of students and teachers to attend our world-class performances. Design for Sharing also engages students in participatory arts activities that enhance the experience. Maxwell H. Gluck Outreach ProgramThanks to a generous grant from the Maxwell H. Gluck Foundation, UCLA’s finest musicians are able to showcase their talent to senior centers, schools and other institutions throughout Southern California. These performances are free of charge to individuals and groups who might not have the opportunity to hear live classical and jazz music. The program also gives UCLA students the opportunity to participate in education workshops and provide schoolchildren in Los Angeles with an arts-in-education program. UCLA Music Partnership ProgramThe UCLA Music Partnership Program sends UCLA music students into Los Angeles’ most underserved inner-city communities to provide music training and mentoring to talented at-risk youth. UCLA music students teach and inspire more than 1,500 inner-city youths annually, incorporating music lessons, academic tutoring and college prep activities. The program also provides youth with opportunities to attend musical and cultural events throughout Los Angeles. Hammer Student AssociationThe Hammer Student Association (HSA) promotes student awareness of the Hammer Museum and creates museum events and opportunities for UCLA students and the Los Angeles community at large. The resources of the Hammer and UCLA give HSA members the opportunity to critically engage in complex questions; explore their own creative potential in the curatorial, writing and programming realms; and expose them to contemporary art through events, exhibitions and student-generated programs at the Hammer. Student Committee for the ArtsThe Student Committee for the Arts (SCA) supports and encourages awareness of and participation in the arts on the UCLA campus. Collaborating with UCLA Live staff to gain practical experience in professional arts administration, SCA produces its own performing arts series and gives student artists outlets to showcase their work. The committee also provides UCLA students with discounted tickets to UCLA Live events in premiere seats. |
