  • The new Evelyn and Mo Ostin Music Center opened at UCLA. Students are learning, practicing, and studying in the new state-of-the-art campus music facility, funded in part by a $10 million gift from music industry executive and philanthropist Morris “Mo” Ostin. (12/9/14)

  • Graduate students from UCLA's Department of Architecture and Urban Design are investigating the feasibility of the Hyperloop, a high-speed tube that could blast passengers from Los Angeles to San Francisco in about 30 minutes. (12/01/14)

  • UCLA Department of World Arts and Culture third-year student Lilia Taboada is the recipient of the inaugural Andrew W. Mellon Undergraduate Curatorial Fellowship with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. (11/26/14)

  • Through the UCLA Art and Global Health Center, director and professor David Gere has used art to communicate his message about ending the AIDS epidemic around the world. He and UNAIDS plan to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030. (11/25/14)

  • As we prepare to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the university, one of our most loyal donors has anonymously issued a $100,000 Challenge Gift to the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture. Until January 31, 2015, all donations will be matched by this generous gift.
  • The Warner Music Group is establishing the Warner Music Prize, a new classical music award, to be given to a musician who demonstrates exceptional promise. In its innagural year, two UCLA Voice Performance alumni have been nominated for the prize.

  • Professor Rebecca Allen has been named chair of the UCLA Department of Design Media Arts. An internationally recognized artist, and research scientist, Allen was the founding chair of the department and as well as the founding co-director of the UCLA Center for Digital Arts.
  • The New York Times announced that Mildred Friedman, accomplished curator and Design|Media Arts alumna (MA '53), passed away at the age of eighty-five on September 3 in Manhattan. She is survived by her husband, Martin L. Friedman, fellow Design|Media Arts alumnus (MA '49).

  • The UCLA Department of Art staff will present an exhibition of work in the New Wight Gallery beginning September 3. Artists include: Chris Bassett, Ed Beller, Deanna Erdmann, Ben Evans, Whitney Hubbs, Jared Pankin, and Steven Simon.
